Virtual Food Freedom Support Group

A place to share openly with others who truly understand.

What Is This Group?

The Virtual Food Freedom Support Group is a free, weekly community space for adults (18+). The purpose of this group is to remember we are not alone in our struggles with food, body image, and related experiences and to support each other around how food fits into our lives emotionally, socially, culturally, and medically.

This group is a support-group rather than a nutrition education class or therapy session. A registered dietitian will be facilitating each meeting, but the group is peer-led and focused on shared experience, and connection.

Participants come together to discuss topics such as:

  • Diet culture and food rules

  • Shame, guilt, or anxiety around eating

  • Navigating new diagnoses or health changes

  • Family and social dynamics around food

  • Body image and self-talk

  • Rebuilding trust with food

  • Setting boundaries around food conversations

  • Finding neutrality, peace, or joy with eating

This is a space to share what is present in your own life and speak from your personal experience. If you mention others, please do so in a way that respects their privacy and focuses on how the situation is affecting you.

    No Advice Giving
What works for one person may not work for someone else. This group is meant for sharing experiences rather than giving advice, recommendations, or strategies. The registered dietitians facilitating the group will not be providing nutrition counseling during sessions, though they may occasionally share general nutrition information or help clarify misinformation.

    No Crosstalk
When someone is sharing, please allow them the space to speak without interruptions, side conversations, or reactions directed toward them. This helps everyone feel comfortable sharing.

    Share the Space
Please allow everyone the chance to share before speaking again so that all voices have the opportunity to be heard.

    Respect Privacy
Outside of the group, you are welcome to share your own experience of attending. Please do not share the names, identifying details, or personal stories of other participants.

    Minimum Group Size
At least three participants are needed for the group to take place. If fewer than three people are confirmed two hours before the scheduled start time, the session will be postponed until the following week. This helps ensure a meaningful group experience for everyone.

    • Cameras should remain on whenever possible as seeing each other helps to build trust and connection.

    • Join from a private, quiet space where others cannot overhear the conversation and where you feel comfortable speaking openly.

    • Keep your microphone muted until you are sharing to avoid outside noise and distractions.

    • Minimize distractions such as multitasking, driving, or walking around during the group meeting.

  • After you register, you will receive an email by the next business day with the group guidelines that must be signed before joining the meeting. The email will also include the link and access code for the virtual meeting on our HIPAA-compliant platform. The link will take you directly to the meeting and does not require downloading an app.
